Katharine. You want to stand on a roof with me?

Oh! Certainly. Which roof?

[Does he have a reason for asking her? Doesn't matter. She'll find out when she gets there.]

There's this warehouse just behind the Haven hospital. I'll meet you at the gate that surrounds it.

[Does that mean he intends for a little breaking and entering? Maybe.]

[Oh she is beyond down for that. Decked in her new clothes, she makes her way there and moves to find him, waving when she spots him.]

[He waves back with a grin, his voice lower when she got to him, like he was afraid of being overheard.]

Hello there.

Don't see a patrol, but I've got a trick to get us to the door just in case. Once we're over the fence, that is. How's your climbing?

[That's the logic under why Katherine didn't call out when she saw him.]

Plenty good enough for this. [It's not the first fence she'll have scaled, nor likely the last.]

[He nods.]

Good, then. Race you.

[That and his smirk are all the warning he offers before hoisting himself up the fence to climb over.]

[Oh he's on. Katherine grins, picking a spot next to him and climbing up as quickly as she possibly can. He probably beats her over, but she tries to make it a close thing.]

[It is such a close thing that his slight cheat is the only reason his feet touch the ground first. He's left grinning for it, slightly winded by thoroughly pleased.

Then he offers her his hand.]

Wanna see a trick?

[Katherine has to take a moment to catch her breath, but she's grinning too. Even so far, this is the most fun she's had in a while.

She nods, taking his head.]

Of course I do.

[He winks at her and casts his spell. A feeling like a pull around their middles and a cool rush of air as he Steps them forward. One moment they're at the edge of the gate, the next they're at the back wall of the building where he leads them to a large window, it's bottom corner broken in. When he turns back to look at her, it's with a huge grin.]

You doing alright?

[Katherine blinks, and when they land outside the building she turns sharply behind them, as if she expects to see some sort of debris left in their wake.]

That--

[She's never felt magic before, and she has no idea how to describe it. Still, she can't help the grin on her face as she nods.] Yes, I'm fine. How did you do that?

[Chris pulled out the raven skull talisman he wore under his shirt and showed it to her.]

I'm a cleric, this is my holy symbol to the Lady God I serve. My magic comes of her.

Bit of a rush, yeah? I'll show you more later, if you want.

[He nodded to the window to indicate they should head in, but then went first, mostly to make sure the edges of the broken window were far enough away for them to slip through.

Once he was in, he turned back to help her if she needed it.]

Have care with it.

[He had mentioned something of his magic source earlier, not that it meant anything to Katherine then. It barely does now, but she's less worried by it. So far, literally nothing about magic has made much sense to her, so she's had to take people at their word that that was how it works.

Still, it is fascinating to actually feel it, and she nods eagerly.]

I would!

[She'll wait for Chris to slip through before following behind, waving off his help as she steps through the other side.] I'm alright, don't fuss. [Still, she grins.] So, up?

[He takes his hand back and holds them up with a grin.]

Yes, my lady.

[Once she's through, he nods to the stairs against the far back wall of the empty room that lead up to a darkened door.]

There's our destination. That'll take us to the roof.

[Oh, that gets a tongue stuck out at him, even as she grins. Brat.

She looks at the stairs, nodding, and then immediately darting off as fast as she can.]

Race you!

[Brat indeed! She takes off running and he practically squawks in surprise before taking off after her. Turnabout was fair play.

He tore off after her, but her head start and his surprise won her the race as he followed her to the stairs.]

Alright...well played, then.

[The door was unlocked and let them out onto the roof, the night time lights on in the streets around them.]

[She laughs when he catches up to her, pushing the door open and letting them both out on the roof. It's not a beautiful view, exactly, still overlooking the Down, but it is a different view and that made it lovely in its own way.

Katherine wonders onto the roof, looking over it all.] Have you come up here before?

Just once to make sure it wasn't rotted.

[They didn't need to go falling through the roof. He moved to the edge and sat there. The sight wasn't much, but there was a slight breeze up here and it was about as private as anywhere felt in the city.]

Just seemed like a good place to gather some thoughts. Maybe take a moment to breathe. Thought you might like it.

[Katherine follows, swinging her legs over the side of the building without a care.]

I do like it. Thank you for inviting me.

[She's not really a still or quiet sort, but... it is nice to just sit, and watch for a little bit.]

[He shrugged. He couldn't quite put to words the reason why, the fact she felt more comfortable than anyone else in the city, even Lux -though, in a different way. He couldn't find it in him to choke out that spending time with her was like being with his friends from home. Was like being with Rhyt again. Those words were too thick to swirl around.

Instead, he let a comfortable silence run between them a moment before asking a different question. Not light, really, but easier to form, his voice thoughtful and a little unsure.]

So...other than this whole designation stuff being stupid and the learning curve we've got here that others don't seem to need, what do you think? Do you miss home? Excited to be somewhere else?

Hmm... both, I guess? All of it?

[Katherine doesn't really think on it or try to figure out what would be the best way to explain it, but she doesn't really ramble either. These are things she's thought a little about, after all.]

There are ways where I'm freer here than I would ever be back home, and there's so many things that are interesting and exciting. And I've made some wonderful friends here. [Even if he doesn't say it, she will.]

But it's very hard to separate it from the designations and the contracts, and I of course miss my friends back home... I don't know. What do you think?

[He shrugs a bit.]

Guess mostly the same. I've met some good people, some of them friends....one of them a bit more than, if I'm honest, but I had all that at home too and I had something I was in the middle of, something that might fail if I'm not there to help.

[He sighs and runs a hand through his hair then looks over to her.]

At the same time, that thing I was doing I never really wanted to do, so being here means I'm getting to see something new. On the other hand, feels a lot like I traded one city I was bound to for another.

It's complicated and I hate it.

[He sounded like a child but it wasn't such a bad thing with her, at least.]

Someone more than?

[Katherine leans over, grinning and curious- you'd better spill and tell her, Chris!!

But at the same time, she's aware there's a more serious conversation going on right now so she leans back, looking back out at the city.]

It is complicated, and stupid, and generally just rather an awful situation, isn't it? [She huffs, kicking her legs a little in frustration.] And we can't even really make the choice.

No, we can't and that's the worst of it. [Having that choice taken from them. Still, there's not much he or she can do for it.

Having someone to talk to, even commiserate helped, though, even if he was sometimes bad at getting to the talking part. Which...reminded him. She's asked.

He found a small pebble and chucked it off the roof into the empty night.]

But...yeah...having people who matter helps. Like you. And...Lux.

[He sends her a sideways look and a small smile.]
